Claire M. (Herford) Geiger

Wellsville—Claire M. (Herford) Geiger, 54, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She was the wife of Herbert W. Geiger. The couple celebrated 31 years of marriage on August 17th. A visitation will be held from 1-3PM, Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, followed by 3PM Celebration of Life Service for family and friends. Officiating the service will be Pastor Steve Boyer of Christ Community Church in Camp Hill. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Born November 11, 1962 in Hertfordshire, England, she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Greenwood) Herford. She was a 1980 graduate of Greece Arcadia High School in Rochester, NY and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in French from The College at Brockport, State University of New York. Claire also studied abroad for a year in France. Before moving to Wellsville and starting her career in retail, Claire and Herb lived in Middletown and Saugerties, New York and Southwick, Mass. During this time Claire enjoyed working with children and taught pre-school. She was also a dedicated mother, very active in all her children’s school and extracurricular activities. She was employed with Kohl’s in Mechanicsburg as an Asst. Manager and previously worked with Macy’s as an Operations Manager. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Geiger is also survived by two sons, Erik H. Geiger of Carlisle and Ryan J. Geiger of Wellsville; one brother, David Herford of Rochester, NY and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Stephen and Roy Herford. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Claire M. Geiger may be directed to support Acute Myeloid Leukemia at Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, 750 East Pratt St., Suite 1700, Baltimore, MD 21202.
