RED LION - Clair Paules, 87, died on Friday, June 20, 2014 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Doris M. (Barnhart) Paules. The couple planned to celebrate their 67th wedding anniversary on August 9, 2014. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with Pastor Troy Harrold officiating. Viewings will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born on May 4, 1927 in Red Lion, he was the son of the late Sterling M. and Mary E. (Mitzel) Paules. He was a 1944 graduate from Red Lion High School and attended Lehigh Valley College before the war. Clair retired as a project engineer from Gichner Shelter Systems. Over the years he also worked at Tom Holtzinger Grocery Store, Red Lion Cabinet Factory, Teledyne Reeds, where he worked on the Saturn Space Missile, Teledyne McKay, for the Red Lion Borough as a crossing guard and York Fairgrounds Security. Mr. Paules served our country for three years in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Mr. Paules was a member of Adamsville U.M. Church. Clair was a former member of the following organizations; Red Lion Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement Advisor, York Power Squadron, Red Lion Jaycees, Red Lion Tall Cedars, Red Lion Masonic Lodge, Chaplain of Red Lion Lions Club, former Service Officer, Bugle Corp Member and past Post Commander of Red Lion American Legion, Red Lion Veterans of Foreign Wars, York County Honor Guard, Red Lion Republican Committeeman, Republican Club of York County, Red Lion Municipal Water Authority, Red Lion Civil Defense Director, Red Lion New Year’s Eve Committee, Red Lion Train Station Model Railroaders, Red Lion Area Historical Society and Catherine Meyers Award Recipient in 1998. He was a life member, firefighter, and fire/police captain of the Leo Independent Fire Company, past commander of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla #1405 and a Boat Examiner and Boating Instructor for the PA Fish and Boat Commission. He enjoyed traveling to the vacation home at Indian River, DE, boating, camping, hunting, fishing, wood projects, slot-car racing and go-cart racing. Clair enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with his wife, Doris, Clair is survived by one son, Stephen C. Paules and his wife, Cathy of Red Lion; two daughters, Connie S. King and her husband, Harry of Mt. Wolf and Kandy L. Paules-Sowards of Red Lion; four grandchildren, Christina Patterson and her husband, Shane, Matthew King, Mary Paules and Eric Paules; and two great grandchildren, Taran and Camree Patterson. Memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA, 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406.
