YORK- Clair E. Vandermark, 89, died on Monday, December 7, 2015 at Misericordia Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was the wife of the late Rose E. (Benedick) Vandermark, who died on February 27, 2005. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with Certified Celebrant Betty Frey officiating. A visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with a flag folding ceremony provided by the York County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Born on February 4, 1926 in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Jerry A. and Mary E. (Gipe) Vandermark. Mr. Vandermark served our country for three years and ten months in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Clair enjoyed bowling and loved summer vacations to the cabin in Caledonia State Park. Mr. Vandermark is survived by one son, Brain Vandermark and his wife, Donna of York; two daughters, Kim Bacon of Brogue and Tina Nevin and her husband, William of York; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Andrew, William, Sean, Sarah, Alicia, Olivia and Douglas; and one great granddaughter, Ava. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Myers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
