York- Christopher Lakata, 48, passed away peacefully Friday January 22, 2010 at the Milton S Hershey Medical center, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Robin (Clark) Lakata with whom he celebrated 15 years of marriage on September 17, 2009. Chris was born September 7, 1961 in Wilkes Barre, PA. He is survived by his wife Robin and two children, a daughter Nicole Lakata and son Matthew Lakata of York, His parents Andrew and Kathleen (Najaka) Lakata of Richfield Springs NY, two sisters Patricia Conley and Thomas of Utica NY, and Andrea Lakata of Colonial Heights VA, Mother in law Rebecca Clark of Marlborough MA, Sister in law Cathleen Dolbec and Marc of Mendon MA, an aunt and uncle, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jayme Lakata. Chris was devoted to his family and was a loving father. He won numerous wrestling awards for Richfield Springs Central High School. After graduating he served in the United States Navy for 7 years and was honorably discharged in 1987. While in the Navy he became an avid photographer and documented his travels to Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, and the Middle East. He served in the naval reserves while attending the State University of NY in Utica where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He was most recently employed as an Automation Specialist for Starbucks Coffee Company at the York Roasting Plant. A proud Yankees fan, he was also an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and hiking. He enjoyed working on electronics, computers, and cars. He had a love of music and an extensive and eclectic MP3 library. He always enjoyed a challenge and never passed up an opportunity to ride a rollercoaster. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an animal lover, predeceased by his beloved Lab, Maxine. A Catholic Funeral Service will be held 8 pm, Friday January 29, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory Inc, 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Rev. Fr. Louis Petruha, OFM Cap officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm at the funeral chapel. Full military honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor guard. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family to establish education funds for his children.
