DOVER-Chester L. Meisenhelter, 90, passed away Saturday, December 25, 2010 at his residence with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Leila A. (Laughman) Meisenhelter to whom he shared 54 years of marriage. A celebration of life service will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. , 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with the Rev. Richard B. Starr officiating. A viewing will be held 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Meisenhelter was born November 20, 1920 in Dover, a son of the late Ellis V. and Emma (Switzer) Meisenhelter. After graduating from Dover Area High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving his country during WWII, in the China, India, Burma Theater. He was a former employee of Medusa Cement Co. for over 35 years, beginning his employment as a crane operator and advancing to analytical chemist until his retirement. He later worked part time for Weis Markets in their produce department. He enjoyed traveling with his wife; visiting family and friends; playing cards; and reading western, mystery and sci-fi novels. He also enjoyed visiting the hunting camp at the Fountain Springs Gun Club, were he would hunt and spend time with family and friends. Mr. Meisenhelter is survived by three sons, Chester L. Meisenhelter, Jr. of Dillsburg, Keith M. Meisenhelter and wife, Patricia of Zephyrhills, Florida, and Robin L. Meisenhelter of Dover; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Meisenhelter of Shawnee, KS, Glenn Meisenhelter and wife, Sally of Towanda, PA, and Arvil Meisenhelter of York; a sister, Peg Sloterbeck of Comer, GA; a sister in law, Doris Meisenhelter of York; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ellis, Floyd, and Phares Meisenhelter; and three sisters, Rhoda, Harriet, and Hilda. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice, 912 S. George Street, York, PA, 17403.
