Charlotte R. (Raver) Markel

YORK- Charlotte R. (Raver) Markel, 85, of York, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2010 at ManorCare Health Services, North York. She was the loving wife of the late Cletus "Frank" H. Markel to whom she was married to for 59 years. Funeral services will be private at the request of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Road is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Markel was born February 28, 1925 in York, a daughter of the late Edward C. and Nettie M. (Ness) Raver. She was a former employee of Cole Steel a Division of Litton Industries as a spot welder for many years until her retirement. Mrs. Markel was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, Shiloh. She enjoyed reading, watching soap operas, and sitting outside admiring the flowers she planted. She also took great pleasure in spending time with her great-grandchildren. Mrs. Markel is survived by a son, Ernest H. Markel and wife, Deborah of Harrisburg; a daughter Tana L. Haldeman of York; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister Ester Sleeger of York; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son Roy E. Markel in 1996. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt.
