YORK - Charlotte Mae (Zarfos) Eckert, 80, of Springettsbury Township, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Hospice and Community Care in Lancaster, after a lengthy illness, with her family by her side. She was the wife of Ervin F. “Junior” Eckert to whom she was married for 52 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion. Viewings will be from 6-9 pm on Friday and 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Reverend J. P. Bohannan will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Windsor Cemetery. Mrs. Eckert was born February 16, 1933 in Red Lion, the daughter of the late Guy and Edna (Kashner) Zarfos. Upon graduation from Red Lion High School, she owned and operated the Windsor Restaurant. She and her husband have owned Eckert Trucking Company in York for the past 38 years. Charlotte was the matriarch of the Eckert dirt racing family. She loved traveling to the races to see her sons, grandsons, daughters, family and friend’s race. She was a member of York County Racing Club, ARCH Racing Club of Hagerstown, MD, EMMR Eastern Museum of Motor Sports, Bowling Green Racing Club, and Vigilant Social Club. In addition to her husband, Charlotte leaves her children, Vickie Snelbaker, Kitty Darrah and her husband Joe, Candy Toggas and her husband Steve, Lori Myers and her husband Steve, Rick Eckert and his wife Kristal; step son, Ervin “Oz” Eckert and his wife Sue; eight grandchildren; four step grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and seven step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
