Charlotte G. (Melzer) Proctor

TROY- Charlotte G. (Melzer) Proctor, 86, of Troy, PA went to Heaven on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. She was born on August 10, 1925 in Springfield Park, NJ, daughter of the late Mack and Georgina Melzer. In her younger years, Charlotte lived in Frenchtown, NJ where she made her living painting and wallpapering. She was a “jack of all trades” and was quite talented in art, ceramics, and carpentry. Charlotte came to Troy, PA in 1987 where she purchased the property of the late Winona F. Pierce and has made her home here ever since. She had a passion for skiing, ice skating and flying. She learned to fly single engine airplanes and received a plaque for doing so. When she was younger, ice-skating was her life. She had the opportunity to be in the winter Olympics but finances and sponsorship were not forthcoming so she was not able to participate. In her later years, Charlotte attended the Ulster Village Presbyterian Church was a member of the Troy Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary. Charlotte thrived at life, her health record was only a few sheets thick and she had the energy of someone half her age. She lived a very simple life; however she accomplished more in her life than anyone could imagine. Charlotte’s life ended so tragically yet has meant so much to ones who knew her. She will be greatly missed. Charlotte is survived by her sons: Drew Proctor of Washington, NJ, and Keith Proctor of Salt Lake City, UT, along with several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her good friends Jamey and Gyla Hoose of Troy, her friends: Annie Scheck, Sandy and Dave Jackson, and Shirley Brace, all of Troy, PA, Florence O’Malley of Frenchtown, NJ, and Sandy Bjerre of Effort, PA, and her feline companion Puffy. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her son Bruce Proctor, and her sister Helen Weiler. Family and friends are welcome to call from 6:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA. The memorial service to celebrate Charlotte’s life will be held at 7:00 Pm on Wednesday, September 21st at the funeral home with her pastor, Rev. Dale Bird officiating.
