YORK- Charles W. McKinney, 73, died Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Manor Care Kingston Court. He was the loving husband of the late Joyce E. (Freed) McKinney. The couple wed on November 29, 1969. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with Chaplain Margie Smith of Heartland Hospice officiating. A viewing will be held from 6-8 on Wednesday and visitation from 4-5 p.m. on Thursday, both at the funeral home. Full military honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard prior to the service. Born on November 30, 1939, in York, he was the son of the late Charles E. McKinney and Lynetta Mae (Knokey) McKinney. Charles worked shipping and receiving at Keener Coatings until his retirement. Mr. McKinney served our country as a member of the United States Marine Corp for six years during the Vietnam Era. Charles was a member of American Legion Post #0945. He also enjoyed hunting and traveling to Disney World. Mr. McKinney is survived by two sons, Douglas L. Siple of Dallastown and Charles W. McKinney, Jr. and wife, Cathy of Abbotstown; a daughter, Jodi A. (Siple) Kohl and husband, Alexander “Pete” J III of Red Lion; two grandchildren, Tegan C. Williams and Ian M. Williams of Red Lion; three step-grandchildren, Alex, Megan and Eric Kohl of Red Lion; a sister; and his bird, Peppi. Charles was preceded in death by his loving dog Bootsie.
