BROGUE – Charles W. Dettinger, 96, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Manor Care South. He was the husband of the late Thelma A. (Smith) Dettinger. Prior to going to Manor Care, Charles was a resident at Victorian Villa in Dallastown. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, August 11, 2014 at New Harmony Presbyterian Church, 2295 Delta Rd., Brogue with his pastor, The Rev. Robert S. Edmundson officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8:00 PM Sunday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion and from 9:30-10:30 AM Monday at the Church. Burial will be in the Church cemetery with full military rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born May 23, 1918 in Chanceford, a son of the late Elmer E. and Ida E. (Gohn) Dettinger, he retired from Glen-Gery Brick Corp. after 35 years of service. Mr. Dettinger was a member of New Harmony Presbyterian Church and life member of Red Lion American Legion. Charles enjoyed traveling with his wife, gardening, and taking care of his yard. He was a US Army veteran of WWII where he earned a Purple Heart for his service with his “Timberwolves” infantry division. Mr. Dettinger is survived by two daughters, Pauline E. and husband Dale Tyson of Windsor and Darlene D. and husband Larry Strayer of Brogue; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry G. Dettinger; a sister; and eight brothers.
