Charles E. Peters, a respected contractor and beloved community member, passed away peacefully at his home on October 16, 2024, at the age of 87. Mr. Peters was born on June 24, 1937, and dedicated many years of his life to serving the York Area through his work in construction. Charles was a son of the late Howard and Ella (Hoffmaster) Peters.
A cherished member of the Red Lion Zion United Methodist Church, Charles was a member for 52 years, and served as the President of the Cemetery Association for many years. Charles was known for his vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication to his family and community. He played an active role in the church's craft club, generously sharing his time and talents with others. Additionally, he was a compassionate volunteer with Kitchen Angels, delivering meals to local shut-ins, providing comfort and support to those in need.
He was known all over York County and beyond for his famous beets and sauerkraut that seemed to be as good as gold. Mr. Peters served his country honorably as a Marine, where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, a testament to his character and commitment to service.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Linda Peters; daughters, Pamala McCauley and her husband Jim, and Lisa Root; son, Al Taylor and his wife Missy; grandchildren: Jessi Butler and her husband Chris, Savannah McCauley, Cassidy McCauley, Darian McCauley, Brynn McCauley, Jesse Taylor, Jason Taylor, Patty Raitt, Sarah Michael, Jylana Thomas, and Hannah Henley; and great-grandchildren: Blake Butler, Graci Butler, and Isla McCauley, along with many more little blessings. He is also survived by three sisters: Linda Looker, Glenda Witman, and Lois Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Sammy. Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn Peters, and 14 siblings.
His life and contributions to the community will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
Viewing services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. Additional viewing will take place at the Red Lion Zion Church, 1155 Felton Road, Red Lion, PA 17356 on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life ceremony officiated by Pastor John Kurtz starting at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
