Charles Laucks Bonner

LEWISBERRY – Charles Laucks Bonner, 99, passed peacefully on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 into Eternal Rest in time to share Christmas with Pearl, the first and only love of his life, who had predeceased him by almost four years. Born on November 23, 1918, near Cly in York County, he was the youngest of three sons who came to exemplify the meaning of brotherhood. He was preceded in death by brothers William and Robert, graduated from New Cumberland High School in 1937, he began his career as a full-time farmer who always enjoyed watching the crops grow on the land he’d helped his parents work since he’d been a teenager. Always active in the life of Moore’s Church (now Redland Valley) and his community, “Charlie” served for years as president of Emanuel Cemetery Board. He taught Sunday School classes of teens and adults for almost 80 years. As devoted followers of Jesus Christ, he and his wife Pearl read daily and believed the Bible as God’s Holy word and prayed together as a family. He sang with the Grantham Oratorio Society and led the singing in several churches. His great enjoyment of music was often a blessing he shared with family and friends on one of a dozen harmonicas. “Dad” was always a sterling example for his children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren. His many fine qualities and ways of expressing them will be treasured memories for years to come, never forgotten by his daughter Nancy Botts (Timothy), granddaughter Katy Stern (Andrew), grandsons Andrew Botts (Becky), Jeremy Botts (Susan), adopted son Robert A. Bonner (Marjorie), grandson Scott Bonner (Robin), Mark Bonner (Melanie), foster daughters Amanda McDonel (Ronald), Marti Daniels (Roger Hall), and foster son Robert Olewiler (Peggy), sister-in-law Betty Yinger, and eighteen great-grandchildren. A memorial to celebrate his long, well-lived life will be held at 11 o’clock AM on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017 in Redland Valley Brethren in Christ Church, 3555 Lewisberry Rd., York Haven, with his pastor, The Rev. Brian Willison officiating. A viewing will be held from 10-11 AM at the Church. Burial will be in Emanuel Cemetery. Beaver-Urich Funeral Home, Inc., 305 West Front Street, Lewisberry is in charge of arrangements. In addition to flowers, contributions may be made to his Church or the charity of your choice.
