Charles J. Mellinger

RED LION – Charles J. Mellinger, 89, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Helen I. (Grim) Mellinger to whom he was married for 64 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with Certified Celebrant Betty Frey officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10:00 AM Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born February 1, 1926 in Felton, a son of the late Lydia (Dise) and Alvin Mellinger, Sr., he had worked at Nina Dye Works Co., Red Lion Cabinet Co., and later retired from McCrory Stores. Charles enjoyed spending many years delivering newspapers in the York area. He was a member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren and a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his wife, Mr. Mellinger is survived by three sons, Dennis E Mellinger of Orlando, FL, Ricky C. Mellinger of Seven Valleys, and Lonnie R. and wife Terri Mellinger of Windsor; three brothers, Clair R. Mellinger, Alvin G. Mellinger, Jr., and Donald E. Mellinger all of Felton; and two sisters, Elsie M. Grim of Dallastown and Evelyn R. Vaught of Stewartstown. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
