Charles I. Markle

YORK – Charles I. Markle, 85, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York. He was the loving husband of the late Sandra K. (Rebert) Markle to whom he was married for 61 years.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held 2 PM on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Pastor Liz Polanzke officiating. Prior to the service there will be a visitation from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM.

Born October 9, 1937 in Philadelphia, Mr. Markle was a son of the late Luther A. and Edna M. (Winters) Markle. Mr. Markle was a proud veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard, and was a member of the AMVETS. For the majority of his career, he worked as a lineman for MetEd and later retired after 33 years there. While with MetEd, he served as the Vice President of the IBEW 1261. Mr. Markle was also a member of the West York Gun Club, 13th Ward Political Club, Shiloh American Legion 791, West York VFW Post 8951, and the Vikings Club. In his free time he could often be found hunting in the mountains or fishing in Rehoboth and Indian River Bay.

Mr. Markle leaves behind his son, John C. Markle and his wife Debera, of Berkeley Springs, WV; three grandchildren, Zachary Boyer and his wife Stephanie, of York, Ashley K. Buhrman of York, and Dustin C. Boyer and his wife Sara, of Salisbury, MD; seven great grandchildren, Samantha, Chloie, Caleb, Jr., Cooper, Charlotte, Jameson, and Asher; a sister, Edith E. Heffner; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Markle is preceded in death by a daughter, Kimi L. Boyer; and two sisters, Doris Henry, and Nancy Hoachlander.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
