Charles H. Wallace

YORK - Charles Howard Wallace passed away at York Hospital with his family by his side, just 5 hours shy of his 78th birthday. Chuck was the son of the late R. Earl and Catharine (Eckhardt) Wallace and the loving husband of nearly 57 years of Flo L. (Strayer) Wallace. A 1954 graduate of William Penn Senior High School, Chuck attended the University of Pennsylvania before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He began his 15 year career as a member of the elite Air Force Technical Application Center (AFTAC). After postings to Sacramento, CA, Fairbanks, AK, Japan and Washington, DC, Chuck retired from military service and moved his young family back to York County to Wellsville, Pennsylvania. Chuck became employed at the then York Borg Warner Corporation and later became the Corporate Communications Director for the McCrory Corporation. In 1983, Chuck left McCrory’s and founded a long-distance telephone company called Capital Telecommunications, Incorporated (CTI). In addition to his wife, Chuck is survived by his daughter, Lorena E. (Wallace) DiZio and her husband, Joe, his son, Bret A. Wallace and his wife, Mary, daughter-in-law Yvonne D. (Taylor) Wallace, having been preceded in death by a son, James H. Wallace. He will be fondly remembered by seven grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, November 6th at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, PA 17408, at 10:00 a.m., with the Reverend Roger Mentzer officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service. Graveside services will be held immediately after at the St. Paul’s Red Run Church Cemetery, 6623 Davidsburg Road, East Berlin, Pennsylvania. Full military honors will be provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to donate in his memory to the building fund of his church, Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main Street, Dallastown, PA 17313.
