TROY- Charles Edward Saxton, 83, of Troy, PA, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Troy Community Hospital. Family and friends are welcome to call from 7:00-9:00 PM on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 and again from 12:30-1:30 PM on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. The funeral service to honor Charles's life will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, February 27th at the funeral home with his pastor, Rev. Richard Noggle officiating. Burial will follow the service in Glenwood Cemetery. Charles was born on July 16, 1924. He was the son of the late Willis and Aline (Leonard) Saxton. He was born and lived on the family farm his whole life with the exception of the few years when he lived on his loving wife's family farm in Jasper, NY. Charles was a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1942, and served his country in the US Army until being discharged for medical reasons. Charles married Doris Marlatt on October 9, 1949 in Jasper, NY and spent 58 years together. They had 3 children together, Duane (Michelle) Saxton and their children Megan and Kyle of Pine City, NY, Lynn (Linda) Saxton and their sons Steven and Jason of Walworth, NY, Eileen (George) Page and children Nicholas and Danielle of Troy, PA. Charles owned and operated his own registered Holstein dairy farm until his retirement in 1983. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Troy, PA. Charles enjoyed his 55 years of membership in the Troy Grange where he was a degreed member of the Subordinate, Pomona, State, National Grange and held offices in the Subordinate and Pomona levels. Charles was an avid bowler at Terrace Lanes; he bowled in the Friday night farmer's league and also bowled on Thursday afternoons. In 1996 Charles was inducted into the Troy Men's Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Sylvania Lions Club for 24 years, and was presented with the honor of the Pennsylvania Lions Fellow in 2001. Charles enjoyed serving his community in Lions activities. Charles is survived by his wife Doris, his children and grandchildren, his brothers Arthur Saxton of Keene, NH, and Earl (Janice) Saxton of Troy, PA, sister Mary Louise Sartell of Thompson, PA, brother-in-law Paul Sims of Troy, PA, and several nieces and nephews. His sisters Elorena Sims, brother Willis R. Saxton, Jr., sisters-in-law Carol Saxton and Anna Saxton, and brother-in-law Bruce Sartell precede Charles in death. Memorial contributions may be made in Charles' name to the First United Methodist Church of Troy, 205 Redington, Ave. Troy, PA 16947 or to the charity of ones own choosing.
