Charles E. Mills, Sr.

Jacobus – Charles E. Mills, Sr., 94, joined his wife along with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Normandie Ridge. He was the husband of the late Ella Louise (Schildtknecht) Mills, to whom he was married to for 44 years until her passing in 1992. Charles was born in Big Springs, Maryland on December 31, 1926. He joined the United States Army at a young age, proudly fighting for his country and providing for his family. After being Honorably Discharged, Charles began working for Bethlehem Steel for 38 years until he retired in 1988. He was very family oriented. Charles was the Boy Scouts leader for troop 913 for 5 years while his sons were scouts. He loved babysitting his grandkids and taking them on camping trips. He supported his kids and grandkids at their sport events, always having a few choice words for the referees and coaches. Charles enjoyed watching Orioles games, playing Canasta and Yahtzee, as well as fishing and hunting. He also made sure to be present at the Mills’ family reunions in Big Springs, MD. Charles was a member at Mason Dixon Baptist Church in New Freedom, PA. Charles is survived by his sons, Charles E. ‘Chuck’ Mills, Jr. and wife, Michelle, Donald Mills and wife, Jackie and James Mills and wife, Michelle; daughter, Cynthia Leese and husband, Stephen; grandchildren, Charles III, Corbin, Brooke, Bradley, Zachary, Amy, Zeke, Jacob, Joshua, Stephen, JD and Tiffani; 11 great grandchildren and brother- and sister-in-law, Richard and Mary Schildtknecht. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021 at Mason Dixon Baptist Church, 713 Campbell Road, New Freedom, PA 17349, with Pastor Terry Felton officiating. A viewing will be held from 10-11 a.m. at the church, and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, PA 17408. Burial will take place following the service at Highview Memorial Gardens, 3433 Fallston Road, Fallston, MD 21047.
