HELLAM--Charles E. “Elmer” Dellinger, 81, passed away Saturday August 28, 2021 at his residence in Hellam Borough. He was the husband of Clea E. (Kline) Dellinger to whom he was married for 63 years. Mr. Dellinger lived a long, full life filled with many adventures. Known to some as Charles, but Elmer by family and close friends; he did his civic duty as the Mayor of Hellam Borough, was a farmer, stock car driver, mechanic, and notorious story-teller. He spent Sunday mornings regaling friends with “deer stories” and reliving the numerous hunting trips, always anticipating getting the “big buck” next time. Fishing trips were a favorite topic of conversation, with tall tales of the biggest one ever caught, he could tell you the best lures to use for crappies, walleye, and pike. He was no stranger to a card game, especially one at a Poker table, and enjoyed taking trips to the casinos. You could also find him drinking coffee down at the local “slop joint”. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the convenience of the family. Born November 28, 1939 in Hellam Township, he was a son of the late Levere R. and Ethel A. (Druck) Dellinger. He was employed as a truck driver working with various companies throughout his career and retired from Yellow Freight in 1999. A member of Starview Sportsmen’s Club, Hawk’s Gunning Club, Teamsters Local 771, and Hellam Fire Co. In addition to his wife, Mr. Dellinger is also survived by one son, Ronald Dellinger and wife, Jill; two daughters, Pamela Dellinger and husband, Morris Shirey II and Patricia Toti and husband, Anthony; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; one brother, Terry L. Dellinger and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Levere R. Dellinger Jr., and a sister, Shirley M. Emswiler.
