YORK-Charles D. Snyder, 99, passed away Friday, April 1, 2011 at York Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Mary Jane (Bailey) Snyder. A celebration of life service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2011 at St. Jacobs Evangelical Lutheran Church, 99 E. George Street, York New Salem, PA, 17371, with his pastor, the Rev. Lisa A. Hair officiating. Viewings will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Road, York and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Mr. Snyder was born January 9, 1912 in York a son of the late Martin Luther and Katie May (Sharp) Snyder. He was a former employee of Teledyne-McKay for 15 years until his retirement in 1978. He was a life member of St. Jacobs Evangelical Lutheran Church and Crolls Union Sunday School where he acted as the Superintendent for 76 years. Mr. Snyder was a U.S. Navy veteran serving his country during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Post #605. He was a lifelong farmer who took great pleasure working on his farm. Mr. Snyder is survived by a son, David E. Snyder and wife, Connie of York; two granddaughters, Christina L. Riccio and husband, Michael E. of E.York, and Denise E. Warnke and husband Christopher J. of W. York; two twin great grandsons, Dominick M. and Xzavier J. Riccio both of York; a brother, George E. Snyder of Spring Grove; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jacobs Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stained Glass Window Fund.
