YORK -Charlene "Char" K. McAllister, 50, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Memorial Hospital with her family and friends by her side. She was the companion of Vicky Shearer to whom she spent 7 years with. A celebration of life memorial service will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at York Christian Fellowship, 110 Weldon Drive, York, 17404. A visitation will be held from 6-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. Charlene was born July 5, 1959 in Bath, NY, a daughter of Janice M. (Gibson) McAllister and the late Fredrick V. McAllister. She was a 1978 graduate of Hammondsport Central High School in NY, where she still holds many records for her athletic abilities, and was just recently inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. After graduating she moved to Lancaster and worked with various painting companies before owning and operating McAllister Painting and Wall Covering. She later moved to York and was employed with Lowes where she worked in their painting department. Char was an outstanding athlete who was involved in numerous athletic organizations over the years. She enjoyed playing softball, soccer, basketball, and track. While in Lancaster she played for the Blue Angels softball team who won the B-State Champions, in 1982. She was an avid animal lover who was very into animal rights and rescue. She was as a loving, caring and extremely giving woman who enjoyed life to its fullest. Even in death, Char kept on giving, as she was an organ donar which allowed her to save and enhance other lives. She was also very proud of her American Cherokee Indian heritage. In addition to her companion, Char is survived a brother, Fredrick V. McAllister and wife, Diane of Bath, NY; a sister Lacena M. McAllister of Hammondsport, NY; niece Megan E. McAllister; nephew, Jared F. McAllister; and best friend Jane M. Yost of York. While in York, she adopted her "second family"; father, James M. and mother, Beryl N. Yost; and family. She is also survived by numerous other family and friends. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to SPCA, any animal rescue, American Cancer Society, or any charity of your choice.
