MILTON - Catherine W. (Winter) Bernabeo, 96, died on Saturday, June 06, 2009 at her residence. Catherine was born on September 12, 1912 in Dallas, Oregon and was the daughter of the late Rev. Abraham A. and Nellie I. (Henry) Winter. Catherine graduated from Lewisburg High School and obtained her B.S. Degree in Home Economics from Albright College in Reading. Catherine first came to the Susquehanna Valley in 1916, growing up in what is now Slifer House, when her father became the first administrator and her mother the first matron of the Evangelical Home, now RiverWoods. In 1937, she married the late Adam Bernabeo, MD, who died on March 23, 1992. The family lived in New York City, and the couple retired to Milton beginning in 1972. Catherine was president of the Parent Teachers Association of Queens, NY; president of the Girls and Boys Club of America, Queens chapter; and a vice president of the New York City Child Care Council, serving as president of the Queens chapter. Catherine is survived by one son, Paul A. Bernabeo and his partner, David Cohen, of Milton; two daughters and their husbands, Cathy W. and Alfred Stoddart of Long Beach, CA and Dr. Linda J. and Elliott Korb of New York City; four grandchildren, Paul B. Stoddart of Springhill, FL, Mark A. Stoddart of New York City, David A. Korb of Herndon, VA, and Senta White of New York City; six great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Fran B. Strauss of Northumberland. In addition to her parents and husband, Catherine was preceded in death by three brothers; Theron, Charles and Paul Winter. There will be a public viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Peter F. Geschwindner officiating. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Care Fund of Albright Care Services, RiverWoods, 90 Maplewood Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
