Catherine Teresa Feeney

AVOCA-Catherine Teresa Feeney, 98, of Avoca, passed away at her home on Friday, May 21, 2010. Born on January 23, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Dominick and Katherine (Harding) Feeney. After graduating from St. John's High School in Pittston, Catherine attended St. John's University in New York City, where she received her Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science in Nursing. Catherine's career as a nurse was very important to her and she served in the United States Public Health Service from 1945 to 1949, when she was honorably discharged. After retiring from the United States Public Health Hospital, Catherine offered her services at Mercy Hospital's Nursing School in Wilkes-Barre. Catherine was a member of St. Mary's Church in Avoca. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Feeney, Mary Feeney, and Alice Feeney; and brother, John Joseph Feeney. Surviving are nephew, John C. and his wife, Beverly Feeney, and their son, Jon Kenneth Feeney; Fredericksburg, VA; and niece, Alexa and her husband, Robert Harris, and their son, Nathanael Harris; Fredericksburg, VA. The funeral mass will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Avoca. Father Phillip J. Sladicka will be officiating. Friends and family may call between 9:00-10:30 a.m. at Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc. 728 Main Street. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Avoca.
