LEWISBURG-Catherine W. “Kitty” Bowe of 204 Alder Lane died November 19, 2011. She was born July 29, 1922, at the home of her parents, the late Atty. William T. “Red” Windsor and Catherine Heinen Windsor in Milton. On March 27, 1943, she married the late Frank G. Bowe at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death at their home at 150 Brown St., Lewisburg on April 21, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her son, Frank Bowe, Jr., who died August 21, 2007. Mrs. Bowe graduated in 1940 from Milton High School and attended Bucknell University. She was a member of the Lewisburg First Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter Robin Bowe Schaffer and her husband, Jerry J. Schaffer of Athens, Ohio and her son’s widow, Phyllis Bowe of Lawrence, NY and four grandchildren: Kathryn Schaffer of Chicago, IL, Doran Bowe of Philadelphia, Whitney Bowe Auerbach of NY and Jeremy Schaffer of Athens, Ohio. In addition, Mrs. Bowe is survived by one sister and her husband, Victoria and Peter Harrison of Hinsdale, MA, two brothers and their spouses, William and Ann Windsor of Media, PA and Henry and Charlotte Windsor of Suffield, CN and her dear friend Carol Vargas of Lewisburg. During World War II, Kitty began a journalistic career as a reporter for the Milton Evening Standard and later she initiated a newsletter called, “What’s Cookin?” for the Chef Boyardee Plant in Milton. In 1970, having held several secretarial jobs, she began working in the newsroom of the The Daily Item in Sunbury. That year, she began the weekly column, “Some Daily Items” by Kitty Bowe, which appeared every Saturday on the editorial page. A highlight of her career occurred in 1977 when she placed second for a column entitled, “Thou Shalt Not Steal”, in the annual Keystone Press Awards contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association. The column was a humorous tale about a dead cat and its surprised owner. Before retiring from The Daily Item in 1982 after the death of her husband, Mrs. Bowe was manager of the Union County Office of the paper in Lewisburg and continued to write feature articles. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, Inc., Milton. Services will be held at 10 am from the First Baptist Church of Lewisburg, 51 South 3rd street.
