RED LION – Catherine E. “Helen” (Mahoney) Flanagan, 92, formerly of the Brick, North Arlington and Kearny areas of New Jersey, died peacefully Wednesday evening, January 30, 2013 at her home with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Theodore F. Flanagan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 pm Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 251 E. Main St., Dallastown with The Rev. Fr. Zenon Maszczyk of St. Joseph of York, officiating. Following Mass, a viewing will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. Entombment will be 1:00 Tuesday at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington, NJ. Mrs. Flanagan was born July 12, 1920, in Bloomfield, NJ. She was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Curtis-Beveridge) Mahoney. She retired as the Director of the United Way in Kearny, NJ after many years of service. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dallastown. She enjoyed playing Bingo at the Red Lion Senior Center as well as reading books and painting, but she especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Flanagan is survived by three sons, Paul Flanagan and wife, Carolyn of Ohio, Kevin Flanagan and wife, Dianna of Dallastown and Brian Flanagan and wife, Janet of Lawrenceville, NJ; a daughter, Susan Flanagan Santos of Pennsylvania and New Jersey; seven grandchildren, Michael Flanagan and wife, Genevieve of Iowa, Erica Pham and husband, Quy of Ohio, Jill Cottone and husband, Richard of Windsor, Marc Santos of Windsor, Ryan Flanagan and wife, Tara of MD, Patrick Flanagan and Kelly Flanagan, both of Lawrenceville, NJ; five great grandchildren, Kaylee and Jordan Pham, and Richard, Catherine and Dominic Cottone; and a sister, Patricia Edwards of Florida. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy Flanagan and a brother, Russell Mahoney. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Tribute Program, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142. Mrs. Flanagan’s family would like to express their grateful appreciation to the staff of Lutheran Home Care and Hospice for the loving and compassionate care provided to their mother.
