Catherine E. (Dorsey) Batty

YORK- Catherine E. (Dorsey) Batty, 69, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009 at her residenc where she resided with her daughter, Helen. She was the wife to the late Warner E. Batty, Sr. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Batty will be held at 11AM Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. Viewings will be from 6-8:00PM Monday and 10-11:00AM Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Batty was born on January 31, 1940 in Darlington, Md., to Helen E. (Dorsey) Buchanan and the late Earl G. Murray. She graduated in 1980 from the Palmer Business Institute with a diploma in Medical Assisting. She worked hard in pursuing this lifelong dream of taking care of people. She was 40 years old when she completed the program. She worked in various facilities as a nursing assistant to include York Hospital, Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehab Center, Rest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Nursing Center, and Health South. Mrs. Batty loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of which received cards on their birthdays. "Mammaw," as she was called by family, provided many hours of babysitting to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed the time. She adored them and knew all of their birthdays. She loved spending time with family at both cookouts and get-togethers. She enjoyed gardening, daytime stories, and her hobby of doll collecting. Despite her strenuous dialysis schedule, she continued to enjoy trips to the casinos and maintaining an active social life. She was well loved and impacted the lives of many. She will be sadly missed. Mrs. Batty is survived by two sons. Warner E. Batty, Jr. of Bellefonte and George A. Batty of York; five daughters, Helen L. Batty, Debra E. Batty Burgos and her husband Tony, Marie E. Batty Mosley and her husband Theodore, Nancy A. Batty, and Linda S. Batty all of York; 19 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; one brother, Earl Murray of MD; seven sisters, Phyllis Collins, Judy Buchanan, Jessie Murray, Carolyn Putney, Joan Biddle, Jean Norris, and Sarah Nowel; a host of nieces and nephews; and two best friends, Shirley and Geraldine. She was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Buchanan and a granddaughter, Monica Batty. The family would like to thank her extended family at dialysis and extend gracious gratitude to her wonderful physician, Dr. Richard Sloan.
