YORK – Carroll M. Sterner, 78, passed away on July 9, 2022 at Misericordia Nursing and Rehabilitation in York. He was the loving husband of Doris E. (Kreeger) Sterner for over 56 years as of December 18, 1965. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 AM on Saturday July 16, 2022 at Christ United Methodist Church, 5 Main Street, Yorkana, PA 17406 with Pastor Jason Guillaume officiating. Viewings will be held on Friday from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, and Saturday from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at Church. Interment will follow at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born May 30, 1944 in York, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Clara Belle (Fogle) Sterner. Mr. Sterner was a 1962 graduate from Red Lion High School, and a graduate from Penn State – York in 1964. After graduation, he worked as a Manufacturing Superintendent for Olin Ordnance – Flinchbaugh Division, until he retired in 2001. Mr. Sterner was a long-term member of Christ United Methodist Church, and over the years served as a Sunday School Teacher, on the Administrative Board, the preschool board, and a trustee. Mr. Sterner was also involved with the Boy Scouts, and was an active leader in the late 60’s. He was a life-long member of Yorkana Community Fire Company, a member of the NRA, a senior member of the Yorkana community baseball board, a member and treasure of the Eastern York County baseball board, a member of the Civil War Token Society, an avid coin collector and dealer, a member of Penn State Lease Association, a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Society, and a member of Primex – Flinchbaugh Division Service Club and 25 Year Club. Mr. Sterner truly loved visiting the beach in Wildwood every year with his family. Above all he loved hunting and spending time with Doris and the family in the mountains near State College at their mountain cabin, “Shady Rest”. In addition to his wife, Mr. Sterner is survived by three sons, Craig M. Sterner (Karen) of Bel Air, MD, Christopher M. Sterner of York, and Chad M. Sterner (Amelia) of Wapakoneta, OH; three grandchildren, Mitchell Sterner, Brandon Sterner, and Reid Sterner; one great granddaughter, Coralyn Sterner; a brother, Leroy Sterner (Kim); two sisters, Jean Waltimyer (Dale), and Ann Druck (William); many wonderful and loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Sterner will be greatly missed by his loving family and many special friends.
