YORK- Carrie Elizabeth ( Ehrhart) Smeltzer, 33, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015, surrounded by her loved ones. She was the wife of John Patrick Smeltzer. The couple celebrated their 8th anniversary on July 28th of this year. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 161 N. Main Street, Red Lion, with her Pastor, The Reverend David Tietje officiating. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, is in charge of arrangements. Born December 7, 1981 in York, Carrie was the daughter of Carroll W. and Carolee L. (Frey) Ehrhart of York. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. She graduated from Red Lion High School in the class of 2000. Carrie then went on to Lock Haven University where she majored in Health and Physical Education and minored in Special Education, and was a member of the AST Sorority. Carrie had a passion for helping special needs individuals and volunteered for York County Special Olympics for 20 years, and served as Director of Aquatics for 14 years. She also coached the Special Olympics Spirit Squad and co-chaired the annual fundraiser Freezin’ For A Reason Polar Bear Plunge. In her 10 years as a health, physical education and adaptive physical education teacher with Red Lion High School, Carrie touched the lives of many students. She went above and beyond to mentor and be a support to her students even when they had finished her class. She was compassionate with a love and zest for life and will be greatly missed by all whom she touched. In addition to her husband John and her parents, Mrs. Smeltzer is survived by two daughters, Kathryn and Natalie Smeltzer; a brother, Christian Ehrhart and his wife Nicole of York; nephews, Landon and Grant Ehrhart; a niece, Piper Ehrhart; mother and father-in-law John Philip and Dawna Lee Smeltzer; and beloved cats, Oliver, Annie and Gracie. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Patient Help Fund, 25 Monument Road, #194, York, PA 17403 or to the York County Special Olympics, c/o John Rinehart, Treasurer, 3280 Skytop Trail, Dover, PA 17315.
