Monroeville - Carolyn E. (Shelly) Shaffer, 82, passed away on Thursday July 8, 2021 at Concordia Assisted Living – Monroeville. Carolyn was the wife of the late Frank M. Shaffer Jr., who passed on December 31, 2016. The couple was married on June 17, 1962. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday July 20, 2021 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church 839 W Market St, York, PA 17401, with her Pastor, The Rev. Kevin T. Shively, officiating. Visitation to begin at 9 am with the service to follow at 11 am. Burial will follow at 2 PM at Emmanuel Cemetery, Pinetown Rd & Rosstown Rd, Lewisberry, PA 17339. Arrangements by Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. York, PA 17408. Born in York on September 25, 1938, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Harry A. and Rebecca M. (Parthemer) Shelly. Carolyn was not only a life-long member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, but also a librarian for the church. She served as a financial secretary for the church for 25 plus years until her retirement in August of 2014. Mrs. Shaffer was a member of the Outing Club at Grove City College where she met her husband, Frank. She was also a volunteer for the US Air Force Officers Wives Club, and was a leader in her daughters activities and clubs. Carolyn was an avid bowler and books were her passion. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Juliann Smith Gaetano (Anthony J. Gaetano) of Monroeville; Valerie Harmon of Kamuela, HI; grandchildren, Rachel Pitschman (Matt Pitschman); Devyn and Briana Harmon; great-grandchildren, Dominic and Mason Gaetano and new baby Carter Joy Pitschman. Her love for her family was apparent in the way she lived every day of her life. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Frank and her grandson, Anthony V. Gaetano.
