YORK- June Carol (Godshalk) Stanton, 88, recently of York, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the Memory Unit of Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Normandie Ridge, 1700 Normandie Drive, York, with Reverend David Brinker officiating. Carol was born August 19, 1929 in Pen Argyl, PA, a daughter of the late Elwood & Sarah (Smith) Godshalk. She graduated from Pen Argyl High School in 1947 and celebrated her 70th class reunion with classmates in August 2017. She was a graduate of Syracuse University, 1951 where she met her late husband of 53 years, William L. Stanton. Carol was employed by Key Bank in New Hartford, NY and various places in Syracuse, NY as a physical education teacher and a loan assistant. Carol was Methodist for her entire life in Pen Argyl (Zion and Grace Methodist Churches), Syracuse (University Methodist), and New Hartford, NY. She also served in various offices in Syracuse University's Phi Mu Sorority Alumnae Association. She worked with the Girl Scouts, Huntington Elementary Mothers' Club, and the Cheerful Adults at the New Hartford Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time at the cabin in Promised Land State Park, traveling to Europe and visiting with grandchildren and college friends. Her hobbies were doing crossword puzzles, playing bridge, and creating stone works at the cabin and in New Hartford. She was a die hard fan of Syracuse University sports, especially basketball, and the New York Yankees. Mrs. Stanton is survived by a sister, Harriet Neiman of Golden, CO and her children, Rebecca Traub and her husband, Thomas of New Cumberland, PA, Patricia Coleman and her husband, Marlin of Coopersburg, PA, Lyman William and his wife, Lisa of Ruckersville, VA, Martha Walck and her husband, Gary of East Stroudsburg,PA., and Sara Spangler and her husband, Kraig of York, PA. Carol had eight grandchildren, Erica Traub Zeigler, Gena Coleman Coyle (Christopher), John Michael Traub (Hannah), Melissa Stanton (Krystal-Rose), Amanda Walck, Brandon Spangler, Robert Walck, and William L. Stanton. Carol is survived by one great granddaughter, Lila Rae Traub, a brother in law, Charles Day of Oxford, NY, and two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Stanton and Hillmaine Stanton both of MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Normandie Ridge Benevolent Care Fund, Attn: Memory Care, 1700 Normandie Drive, York, PA 17408 or the First United Methodist Church of New Hartford, 105 Genesee St., New Hartford, NY 13413.
