Carlyn E. (Unger) Spangler

WEST MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP- Carlyn E. (Unger) Spangler, 74, of York, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at her residence. She was the wife of Gerald F. Spangler. The couple celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on July 14, 2008. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10 a.m. on Monday, October 6, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with a viewing from 9-10 a.m. Her pastor, The Reverend Phyllis J. Baum will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Mrs. Spangler was born in York on July 14, 1934, a daughter of the late Robert G. Unger and Annamay (Garbrick) Sowers. She worked as a waitress for Sower's Restaurant in West York and Wynn's Homestead in Dover. Mrs. Spangler was a member of Hayshire United Church of Christ, a life member of West York VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of The Red Hat Society and West Manchester Mall Walkers. She enjoyed camping, reading, and television. Mrs. Spangler leaves two daughters: Donna Miller and her husband Ric of Spring Grove, and Karen Heath and her husband Tony of Manchester; three grandchildren: Amanda Lentz, Danny Lentz, and Dillon Wentz; four step grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A sister, Trema McCubbin preceded her in death. Memorial contributions may be made to York Cancer Center, Patient Help Fund, 25 Monument Dr., Suite 194, York, PA 17403.
