York—Carlton Mason Gerhart, Jr., 93, died Monday, February 23, 2015 at his residence in York Township. He was the husband of Shirley R. (Miron) Noonan. Born September 12, 1921 in Tucson, AZ, he was a son of the late Carlton M. Gerhart, Sr and Elda V. (Wachter) Gerhart. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona where he was a member of the Tau Beta Pi Fraternity and a life member of the Alumni Association. A United States Army Air Force Veteran, he served as a 1ST Lieutenant during World War II. He was highly regarded as a Mechanical Engineer, specializing in air conditioning development and design. Throughout his distinguished career he was employed with dbo Corp., in York as Vice President of Engineering, York-Shipley, Inc., as Air Conditioning Design Engineer, Pioneer Radio Electric Service Company as an Air Conditioning Engineer. He also worked for York Borg-Warner, where he held several titles in different departments, including, Chief Engineer of Air Conditioning Units and Air Handling Equipment, Manager Development Engineer for Central Environmental Systems and Chief Engineer for Unitary Products. Additionally he held a Chief Engineering position with York International working in Saudi Arabia with Saudi Air Conditioning Manufacturing Company, LTD. In addition to his wife, Mr. Gerhart is also survived by two sons, Dr. Tobin N. Gerhart of Brookline, Mass., and C. Mason Gerhart III of Van Nuys, CA; four grandchildren, Marika and Schyler Gerhart and Christen and Torin Gerhart. He was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Anderson.
