RENOVO - Carlton F. “Carl” Sauer, 94, of Renovo Pa. passed away peacefully Friday, May 25, 2018 at The Gatehouse; Williamsport Pa. Carl was born on September 23, 1923 in Croghan, NY, the son of the late George E. and Bertha (Meister) Sauer. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by two brothers; Clarence and Lyle, four sisters; Velma, Emma, Evelyn and Geraldine and one step-daughter; Cindy Pompili of Renovo, PA. Carl is survived by his wife of 18 years, the former Ursula L. (Gotthardt) Hook, who he married on November 16, 1999. He is survived by sons, David( Patricia) Sauer of Horseheads, NY; Kevin ( Lisa) Sauer of Elmira Heights, NY; and daughters, Donna ( Wayne) Nichols of Bethany, NY; Judy Smith and Wiley of Oxford, NY; Debra Balch of Napa, California; former wife, Dorothy Sauer of Horseheads, NY; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Llewellyn (Sonia) Sauer of Vermont; brother-in-law, Ned Tudi; stepchildren, Darlene Stellfox of Renovo,PA ; Sandra Goetz (Jerry) of Elmira, NY; William ( Debbi) Hook Jr. of Lock Haven; 9 step grandchildren; 14 step great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Carl was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps. He was honored to serve his country as a crewman on a B-25 and was awarded the Purple Heart. Carl worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. as a salesman for over 40 years and retired in 1988. After retirement, he was a Code Enforcer for Catlin, NY. He was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church, American Legion, and Masonic Lodge 913 in Elmira Heights, NY. Carl enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling, boating, playing cards, and most of all spending time with family and friends. There will be no calling hours. Carl will be laid to rest at the convenience of the family, in The Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY where full National Honors will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Twin Tier Honors Flight or a local charity of your choice. Local arrangements are being handled by Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth Street, Renovo, PA 17764.
