Carlos A. Cortinez

YORK- Dr. Carlos A. Cortínez, 82, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2016 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Cecilia Heydl-Cortínez with whom he spent 34 years of marriage. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with Certified Celebrant Kasie J. Watkins officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-3 PM prior to the service. Born April 8, 1934 in Santiago, Chile, Carlos was a son of the late Carlos Cortínez Morandé and Quintila Fontecilla Fuenzalida. Carlos was a Professor of Latin American Literature with a focus on Neruda and Borges. He taught at several universities, including University of Maine, Bangor, Tulane University, Dickinson College, among others. He was an accomplished scholar, poet, chess player and marathon runner. Carlos was a passionate man who was full of life and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Professor Cortínez is survived by four children from his first marriage, Cristián, Verónica, Bárbara, and Raimundo; and two children from his beloved wife Cecilia, Sebastián and Claudia, and four grandchildren, Felipe, Caroline, Ignacio, and Nicolás.
