Carl S. Miller

Carl Samuel Miller passed peacefully on June 6, 2016 at the age of 73. He was the husband of Bonita (Bear) Miller and on June 8th would have celebrated an amazing 53 years of marriage. Born in Lewistown, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel C. and Ethel G. (Penepacker) Miller. Carl had a family that he loved dearly; brother Robert L. and Beverly Miller and children; Scott A. Miller of Mountain Top, PA, Tammy (Miller) and John Pappas of Collegeville, PA and Denise (Miller) and William Blackwell of York. If you knew Carl you knew that his grandchildren were the light of his life; Kristen, Zachary, Samantha, Taylor, Nicholas, Thomas, Ryan and Dylan. He had many cousins, nieces and nephews that could share many stories about their Uncle Carl. Carl was known for riding his Harleys, coaching football, playing in the church band, creating cooking creations in the kitchen and laughing at a joke hours after it was told. He had a love for photography and could be found behind the camera shooting weddings, sporting events, and with modern technology came many selfies. His humor and his love for his family was contagious. He was a member of the Shiloh American Legion, Hawks Gunning Club and York Riflemen. After graduating from Central York High School in 1961, he joined the Navy and was stationed in Point Mugu, CA. He returned to York and worked at Borg-Warner followed by Caterpillar. Carl retired from Caterpillar after 30 dedicated years of employment. Carl was a member of First Baptist Church of York where he found his love for the Lord. He had played in the handbell choir, had been in charge of the video department, served on a Missions trip to the DR, and most recently played and sang in the church praise band. Carl loved to sing and play his many beloved guitars. A tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of York, 3375 Druck Valley Rd., York with Pastor Timothy Munson officiating the celebration. Friends and family will have the opportunity to attend a viewing and visitation from 9-11:00 AM Saturday at the Church. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with a flag folding detail provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The First Baptist Church of York or the SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406.
