RED LION – C. Dean Spurley, 91, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Velma A. (Smeltzer) Spurley to whom he was married for 74 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. A viewing will be held from 1-2:00 PM Saturday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Zion U.M. Cemetery with full military rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born January 31, 1923 in Red Lion a son of the late Adam and Martha M. (Phelan) Spurley, he retired from Carolina Freight Carriers in 1987. Mr. Spurley was a life member of both Red Lion American Legion 543 and VFW Post 1446; and a longtime member at Bethany U.M. Church in Felton. Dean loved spending time hunting and fishing. Dean was a US Army veteran of WWII where he served in Africa and Italy. He was a proud enlistee who drove water tankers toward the battle lines. In addition to his wife, Mr. Spurley is survived by two sons, Greg F. Spurley of Felton and Gary F. and wife Helen Spurley of York; three grandchildren, Jennifer Baum, Shane and wife Amy Spurley, and Michael and wife Heather Spurley; four great grandchildren, Dakota and Cole Spurley, R.C. Baum, and Wyatt Baum. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Felton U.M. Church, 41 High Street, Felton, PA 17322.
