C. Byron Everhart

YORK - C. Byron Everhart, 78, died Monday, July 16, 2007 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Margaret W. [Woodland] Everhart to whom he was married for 56 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Everhart-Jackson-Heffner Funeral Home, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with his pastor, the Rev. David L. Ritterpusch officiating. Private burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with Full Military Rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing will be held from 7-9:00 PM Friday at the Funeral Home. Mr. Everhart was born February 3, 1929 in York, the only child of the late Charles M. and Mary [Brenneman] Everhart. He grew up as a native "North Yorker" having graduated from North York High School in 1946. He then served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War attaining the rank of Corporal. Following his military service, Byron attended Eckel's Mortuary School in Philadelphia where he earned his Funeral Director's Degree. He began his 35-year funeral service career in York with the Guy B. Creep Funeral Home, which he purchased, in the mid 1960's, and converted to Everhart Funeral Home. In 1991, Mr. Everhart sold his business to what is now Everhart-Jackson-Heffner Funeral Home. Following the sale of his business, he continued working with the funeral home on a part-time basis and enjoyed spending more time with his wife, family, and beloved grandchildren. Byron also spent much of his retirement riding and taking care of his Tennessee Walker horse. He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council; East York Lions Club; was a former member of Out Door Country Club; and is a former member of his childhood church, St. Peter's Lutheran Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Everhart is survived by three daughters, Lisa A. Everhart and companion John Graf of Arlington, VA, Meredith M. and husband Eric Carey of York, and Heidi S. Everhart and husband Jeffrey A. Feist of Wyndmoor, PA; four grandchildren, Cameron Sprenkle, Griffin, Gunnar, and Marnie Feist; and a former son-in-law, Roger Dodson of Arlington, VA. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Ann Everhart who passed away March 17, 1955.
