Bruce Emmett Mervine, Sr.

York – Bruce Emmett Mervine, Sr., 76, passed away at York Hospital on Monday, June 28, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife, Christine L. (Rambo) Mervine; they would have celebrated 53 years of marriage in August. Bruce was born in Philadelphia on March 25, 1945, to the late George and Sophia (Breisch) Mervine. After graduating from Lincoln High School, he enlisted in the US Army where he worked as a weatherman attached to a unit in Vietnam, and was Honorably Discharged in 1968. From 1972-1999, Bruce owned and operated Yorktowne Studio as a photographer, as well as Yorktowne Press, which his wife ran. He was the portrait and wedding photographer for many families in the South Central PA area. Bruce always had his camera on him, and could often be found snapping photos of people, places, pets, and anything else that caught his eye. He served on the West York Borough Council and volunteered as an ambulance attendant with the York Ambulance Club in the 70s and 80s. From 1999-2014 he worked as a Deputy Sherriff, receiving numerous commendations. During his free time, Bruce enjoyed fishing, crabbing, golfing, and occasionally hunting. He was a part of the Green’s Dairy Golf League and various online crabbing and fishing forums. An avid fisherman, Bruce enjoyed taking his boat out as much as he could, often to Lake Marburg, the Wye River, and the Chesapeake Bay. Bruce loved interacting with people and could put a smile on your face with ease. Bruce is survived by a son, Bruce E. “Chip” Mervine, Jr.; daughter, Dale Louise Mervine and a great-granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Anthony Elwood “Tony” Mervine. A gathering of friends will take place at a later date. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to an animal shelter of your choice.
