Brian T. Laverty, Age 55 of 250 Redington Avenue Troy, PA passed away unexpectedly on Friday October 30, 2009 At Troy Community Hospital. Brian was born January 15, 1954 in Boston, MA son of the late Charles and Janet (Keefe) Laverty. He was a graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, MA and served his country in the US Army from 1974 to 1977. He and the former Joanne S. Rubino were married February 2, 1975 in Millis, MA. Brian was the founder of the Laverty Group an affiliate member of the Portfolio Resources Advisor Group. Active in the community, Brian was an avid government official serving of both the Borough of Milton, PA and Troy, PA where he served as President of the Troy Borough Council. His memberships included the Democratic Committee, St. John's Catholic Church, PA Environmental Network, Organization United for the Environment and the Community Legal Defense Fund. Brian also had been a member of the Green Party and was the first Green Party Member to be voted into public office in Pennsylvania when he was a Blossburg Borough Councilman. He was interested in environmental issues and sustainable energy and in his spare time wrote a column in the Canton Sentential. He was also a devoted husband, father and New England Patriots fan. Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years Joanne S. Laverty of Troy, PA, son Charles "Chuck" Laverty of Pittsburgh, PA daughter, Christina "Tina" Laverty of Harrisburg, PA, sister and brother-in-law, Virginia & Steven Ryan of Farmington, CT, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at St. John's Catholic Church High & Exchange Streets, Troy, PA with Reverend Martin Boylan as celebrant. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are directed to The Wounded Warrior Project, 370 7th Ave. 3rd Floor Room 320, NY, NY 10001or to Xaverian Brothers High School, Office of School Advancement, 800 Clapboardtree Street, Westwood, MA. 02090 or to a charity of choice.
