Brian Keith Spiegel

ETTERS- Brian Keith Spiegel, 52, of Fairview Township passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 unexpectedly at his residence. He was the husband of Carol Lenette (Mathews) Spiegel. The couple celebrated their 5th anniversary on March 1, 2016. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with a visitation from 6-7:30 p.m. Full military honors will be performed at the start of the service. Brian was born in Hanover on July 19, 1964, the son of Virginia (Raffensberger) Toomey and John Toomey. He was preceded in death by his father Louis J. Spiegel. He was retired from the US Marine Corps where he was a Captain and he served in Desert Storm. He was currently working at the Navy Depot in Mechanicsburg. Brian was a 1982 graduate of Central York High School. He received his Master’s Degree in Education from University of Phoenix and attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management and minored in Geography. He also attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL where he received an Associates’ Degree in Aviation Business Administration. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially bike riding and hiking. Brian left two sons, Brandon K. Spiegel of Elizabethtown, Britton K. Spiegel of Barnhart, MI; two step sons, Dustin W. Shaffer and his wife Jenna of Lewistown, and Brett A. Shaffer and his wife Jenna of Belleville; two grandchildren, Max Oburn and Liam Shaffer; a brother, John A. Toomey and his wife Lori of Manchester; and two sisters, Terasa Astarita and her husband Salvatore of Willow Street and Tracy Cadawas and her husband Pancho of York.
