Betty Marie (Kauffman) Kurtz

RED LION- Betty M. (Kauffman) Kurtz, 82, died Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at the York Hospital. She was the loving wife of Charles R. "Dick" Kurtz. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, December 14, 2007 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with the Rev. John M. Harman officiating. Vistation will be 1 - 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Freysville Zion United Methodist Cemetery, Red Lion. Betty was born in Windsor Township on March 6, 1925, a daughter of the late Harry and Ardella (Smith) Kauffman. She graduated from Red Lion Area High School in 1942. Betty was employed with Red Lion Cabinet Company as an inspector and later, was a receptionist for Dr. Vassar's dentistry practice. Betty was also a Licensed Practical Nurse and took care of patients in their homes. She did housekeeping for Dallastown School District and Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Home. Living across the street from the original funeral home, Betty and Dick became close friends of everyone at Olewiler & Heffner. She was an avid reader, collected teddy bears, and sold Avon in the Red Lion area until 2004. The last several years, Betty devoted her time and talents to taking care of Dick. In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by two sons, Barry L. and his wife Kim Flaharty of York and Jeff L. and his wife Jane Kurtz of Boyertown; two daughters, Deborah K. Lookingbill of Red Lion and Cindy A. and her husband Greg Fortney of Felton; five grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
