HANOVER – Betty M. (Fry) Wakefield, 85, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 at her home. She was the wife of the late Eugene C. Wakefield to whom she was married for 60 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, April 2, 2012 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with her pastor, The Rev. Brenda J. Ferree officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8:00 PM Sunday and 9:30-10:00 AM Monday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born September 29, 1926 in York a daughter of the late Herbert F. and Effie M. (Lightner) Fry, she was a 1944 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and a 1964 graduate of nursing school in Lancaster. Mrs. Wakefield retired as the nursing supervisor from Greiman’s Convelescent Home after 46 years of service. She had been a Brownie leader; secretary of Good Sam’s Camping Club; was the first woman president of Old Stonehenge Camp Ground; and was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Her hobbies included reading, knitting, camping; and most importantly spending time with her great grandchildren. Mrs. Wakefield is survived by two daughters, Sandra J. DeLong and her companion Robin Ruth of Thomasville and Patricia A. Zinn of Hanover; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Norman Fry of York and Robert Fry of Montana; five sisters, Frances Hoffmaster, Mary Wise, Thelma Druck, Janet Hickman, and Barbara Bowman all of York. She was preceded in death by a great grandson; three brothers; and one sister. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA of Hanover & Spring Grove Hospice, 440 Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
