Betty Louise (Laird) Smith, 92, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018. She was the wife of the late Chester B. Smith. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion, with a viewing from 10 to11 a.m. Burial will be in Bethlehem Stonepile Cemetery in Red Lion. Born in York, July 2, 1925, Betty was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Sally (Olewiler) Laird. She retired after over 20 years of service for Doe Spun. Prior to that she was the owner and operator of Smith Supply Store in York. Mrs. Smith was a member of First St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in York and a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Mrs. Smith leaves a son, Neil D. Smith; three daughters, Nancy Miller, Cindy Stoner, and Sue Ann Aldinger; eight grandchildren;11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers; Richard, Sterling and Robert Laird and two sisters, Florence Krout and Margaret Sentz.
