Betty June Nicholson

YORK- Betty June (Wicker) Nicholson, 99 years, of West Manchester Township, York, PA, died January 29, 2024 at Country Meadows Trolley Rd, with her family by her side. She was the wife of Don E. Nicholson, whom she shared over 77 years of marriage. Don preceded her in death on March 28, 2023.

Born March 17, 1924 in Holton, KS, Betty was a 1942 graduate of Holton High School, Holton, KS and attended Emporia State University in Emporia, KS. On August 10, 1945 she married Don, the love of her life, and they later settled in the Alton/Godfrey, Illinois area for 64 years. Betty was an active leader in many community organizations including the PTA, Godfrey Women’s Club, Alton Community Service League and a faithful member of 12th St. Presbyterian Church in Alton, IL. Her hobbies included sewing, entertaining and participating in several bridge groups.

Betty was the daughter of the late Ivan L. and Elizabeth (Kauffman) Wicker and the youngest of five children who have all preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy N. Keperling, husband David, of York, PA, and son, Don A. Nicholson of Fawn Grove, PA. Her daughter, Sara N. Slipher, predeceased her in 2010. She also has 5 grandchildren: Ryan C. Keperling, Amanda R. Kropp, Kyle B. Keperling, David R. Nicholson, Lisa M. Mercado, and 8 great grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at Country Meadows, York and interment will be in Moline City Cemetery, Moline, KS. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
