Betty June (Leonard) Freeman

WELLSBURG- Betty June (Leonard) Freeman, 86 of Ridgebury, PA passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY. She was the loving wife of the late John Henry Freeman who passed away on October 12, 1981. The couple married November 18,1944 and had 37 happy years together. Betty was born on June 28, 1926 in Big Pond, PA, daughter of the late Seymour Dewey and Leone (Bridgeman) Leonard. She worked for Remington Rand and then LRC Electronics in Horseheads, NY, from where she retired in 1989 after 15 years of service. She was Baptist by faith. Betty enjoyed crocheting afghans for her grandchildren and gardening. She also enjoyed reading, putting puzzles together, and she especially enjoyed the trip she was able to take to Alaska. Betty is survived by her her daughter Charlotte (Leonard) Buckland of Elmira, sons: Gene (Pat) Freeman and Mark (Deb) Freeman, both of Ridgebury,, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, her sisters: Donna Phillips of Bentley Creek, and Wilma Grover of Elmira, her sister-in-law Evelyn Leonard of Bentley Creek, along with several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, her son John Harold Freeman, her grandson Jeff Freeman, her twin brother Gene, her sisters: Beverly, Nina, Rita, Lila, and her son-in-law Richard Mansfield. Family and friends are welcome to call from 2:00-4:00 pm and again from 6:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street Wellsburg, NY. The funeral Service to honor Betty’s life will be held following the viewing at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 23rd at the funeral home with Rev. James Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Bentley Creek Cemetery on Wednesday, April 24th at 1:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to the Tri-Township Ambulance Service, c/o Diane Husted, 16145 Berwick Tpk., Gillett, PA 16925 to help with the costs of the ambulance service in Ridgebury.
