YORK- Betty Jane (Sterner) Sands, 87, began eternal life with her Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Manor Care Kingston Court. Betty and her husband, Lee H. Sands, enjoyed 64 years of Marriage. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Emmanuel Church, 2550 Pine Grove Rd., York with Pastor Jim Herbert officiating. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born July 4, 1930 in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Gertrude (Dubbs) Sterner. Betty graduated from York High School in 1948 and from West Chester State Teachers College in 1952. She then taught elementary school in the Langhorn Area School District, Central York School District and York City School District. A long time member of Christ Lutheran Church, she was part of the founding congregation of Emmanuel Christian Fellowship (now Emmanuel Church) where she taught Sunday School. Betty was a past President of York Day Aglow and enjoyed visiting Wildwood, NJ, Williamsburg, VA and three European Concert trips with her husband’s choruses. Betty and Lee were blessed with two children. Their son, David L. Sands lives in Denver, CO and works for PricewaterhouseCoopers. Their daughter, Deborah L. Feyerabend lives with her husband Troy in Castaic, CA and works for the LA Times. They have two children. Max Feyerabend lives at home and is an auto mechanic. Their daughter Jennifer L. Sands lives in Los Angeles, CA and is a hair stylist. Betty also leaves several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Sterner and three sisters, Pauline Osbo, Margaret Manspeaker and Mary Lee Weikert. Betty enjoyed calling her husband “Lee, the Music Man.” Both loved all kinds of music and music filled their home every day. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to “Somebody Cares” in care of Emmanuel Church, 2550 Pine Grove Rd., York, PA 17403.
