Betty Jane (Nichols) Espenscheid

YORK - Betty Jane (Nichols) Espenscheid, 77, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023 with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of Gary D. Espenscheid. The couple would celebrate 34 years of marriage on August 26, 2023.

A Celebration of life Service will be held 2PM Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with Reverend Ken Loyer officiating. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM.

Born February 9, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland, Mrs. Espenscheid was a daughter of the late Reba Mae (Moore) Nichols. Mrs. Espenscheid worked many years as a scan coordinator at Shurfine, but her favorite job was as a full-time grandmother and great grandmother. In her free time, you could find Mrs. Espenscheid spending time with her dog, reading, taking the family to the lake house in New York, or cooking. Around Thanksgiving, Mrs. Espenscheid was known to make ten to twelve apple pies for family and friends to enjoy, all with her signature turkey crust cut out on top. Mrs. Espenscheid was fascinated with the events of World War II, and spent a lot of time researching all she could on it. She was also very supportive of the Armed Forces and proud of her daughter, son-in-law, and 4 of her grandsons who all served in the Navy, Marines and Army.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Espenscheid leaves behind a daughter, Michele D. (Davis) Franklin and her husband Jody; eight grandchildren, Andrew, James, Katy, Jonathan, Kyle, Taylor, Cody, and Mackenzie; and eight great grandchildren, Anthony, Waylon, Rosalina, Arabella, Oakley, Amaia, Hudson, and another on the way; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Espenscheid is preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa L. Davis; two brothers, William, and Nicky; and one sister, June.
