Betty J. (O'Neil) Martz

Betty J. (O’Neil) Martz, 93, died on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Hospice & Community Care, Mt. Joy. She was the wife of Marlin W. Martz, Sr., to whom she was married for 75 years. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 10 at 11:00 am at Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church, 402 Valley Rd., Etters, PA, with Pastor Debbie Heisley-Cato officiating. Inurnment will be held on Monday, February 12 at 10:30 am at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Betty’s family has entrusted her care to Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, PA, 717-767-1551. Born on September 14, 1924 in Millersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Esther (Bowers) O’Neil. Betty worked at the Carlisle Shoe Factory and retired from Capital Blue Cross in 1980. After retiring, Betty lived with her husband, Marlin, in Edgewater, Florida for over thirty years. During that time, she created and sold holiday crafts and welcomed countless family and friends into their home. After returning to the Harrisburg area, Betty became a regular attendee at Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church. Betty most recently resided with her husband at Autumn House East in York, PA, where she enjoyed playing bingo with her friends, watching the Wheel of Fortune daily and solving word-find puzzles. Most of all, she loved being surrounded by family and friends, holiday gatherings, and preparing family recipes. Betty will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and deep love for her family. Along with her husband, Marlin, Betty is survived by one son, Marlin W. Martz, Jr. (Butch) and wife Kathy of Harrisburg; two daughters, April Peffer and husband David of Etters, and Dawn Coble of Hershey; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by seven brothers: Robert, Joseph, Elwood, Homer, Harold, Donald and Marvin. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care, 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mt.
