Betty D. Cawley

YORK- Betty D. (Krohn) Cawley, 89. of Manchester Township, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Country Meadows Retirement Communities in York. She was the wife of the late George R. Cawley.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Faith United Church of Christ, 509 Pacific Ave. in York, with a visitation from 12:30-1:30 pm at the church. Pastor Ron Oelrich will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Betty was born in Sunbury on October 8, 1934, a daughter of the late William C. and Dorothy E. (Poyer) Krohn.

With Betty being the sister to three brothers made her bold. She had her eye on an upper classmate George at Selinsgrove High School. She hopped in his car and asked for a ride. They married on August 30, 1952, and were together for 61 years when George passed away in 2014. Since that day she wanted to be with him again. Soon after moving to York, she volunteered for Contact York and was part of a homemaker’s group that she enjoyed for years, but enjoyed being with family first. In her spare time, she enjoyed working in her gardens, golfing, playing Bridge and was also a great seamstress, making all of her own drapes. She was a member of Faith U.C.C in York.

Mrs. Cawley leaves a son, Steven G. Cawley and his companion, Sylvia of Hellam: a daughter, Sandy L. Preston and her husband Steven of Dover; three grandchildren, Steven, Jr., and his wife Lauren, Destiny and husband Mickey, and Adam; a great grandson, Jason; a brother, Jack Krohn; her best friend Glenda; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dick and Bill Krohn.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith U.C.C., 509 Pacific Ave. York, PA 17404 or The Well Food Pantry, P.O. Box 2803, York, PA 17405.

Thank you to the staff at Country Meadows Trolley Road and Lifesong Hospice for their care and compassion.
