Betsy (Sakelaridos) Lion

Betsy (Sakelaridos) Lion, 91, of Tonawanda, New York, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Dock Woods Community Nursing Home in Lansdale Pa. Born in Wilkes-Barre on August 18, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Helen Casper Sakelaridos. She resided in Wilkes-Barre until moving to Buffalo, New York in 1951. She was retired from the Tonawanda Board of Education where she was employed for many years as a secretary. Betsy was a member of the Tonawanda United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Walter Lion; a brother, James; and sisters, Marie Politis and Irene Rowe. Betsy is survived by two sons, William and wife Linda of Lower Gwynedd Pa, and Walter and wife Elizabeth of Boonton Township NJ; grandchildren Eric, Alexandra, Amanda, and Gregory; sister Sophie Pappas; brothers Michael and Joseph; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Betsy will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 10:30 at Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Carol E. Coleman, of Luzerne United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Shrine Park, West Wyoming. Friends may call on Saturday morning from 9:30am till the time of the service.
