FARWELL - Bessie E. Butler, age 84, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, went to be with our Lord and savior on Oct. 2, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family. She was born on Nov. 22, 1923 in Emigh Run, Pa., daughter of the late Samuel and Emma (Pontious) Arndt. Bessie was a homemaker who loved her family time, was accomplished at crocheting doilies and afghans, and was a frequent blood donor to the Red Cross for many years. She was a member of the Renovo Presbyterian Church for many years, and was very active in the activities of the Church. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge Auxiliary and really enjoyed socializing with people. On Nov. 15, 1952, in Coudersport, she married Paul H. Butler who survives. Also surviving are her sons: Rev. James (Janette) Summerson of Knightdale, N. Carolina and Herbert Probst Jr. of North Bend, daughters: Ruby (John) Schmidt of Fleetwood, Pa. and Linda Butler of Reynoldsville, 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, brother: Tyrus (Laura) Arndt of Emporium and sister-in-law: Emma Jean Arndt of Emporium, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded by 8 brothers and 5 sisters. Funeral services will be held at the Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth St. Renovo, at 1:00 P.M. Saturday with Rev. James Summerson officiating. Interment will follow in North Bend Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until service time. Memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society.
